Year 5
Empowering confident, curious and independent life-long learners is our aim in Year 5. Pupils apply our core values, Nurture, Inspire, Achieve, to themselves, to others and to challenges. Year 5 is a year when pupils grow in maturity and take responsibility for their learning in preparation for bigger things to come. Challenge is an integral part of our learning and reaching beyond our comfort zone, in a safe and caring environment, where we foster a love and enthusiasm for learning. We develop skills and attitudes to tackle this independently and collaboratively building resilience, growth mindset and fundamental life skills.
Throughout Year 5, we thrive on engaging and inspiring pupils through a wide range of topics including: stepping back in time to the Roman and Victorian era; travelling across the Atlantic to embark on a rainforest adventure of discovery; blasting into space to uncover the secrets of the universe and immersing ourselves in all that India has to offer learning about the Sikh religion. Each topic is an exciting time filled with new learning opportunities and experiences including ‘Train like an astronaut’, a Roman battle with shield formations, investigating a ‘crime scene’ and a Victorian day, to name but a few.
We take part in a number of off-site visits including a residential at St Aubin’s Fort participating in water-based activities, Safety in Action, French Experience, the States Chamber, Jersey zoo and many more.
In Year 5, every day is a new experience filled with fun, sculpting pupils to become successful and happy learners with high aspirations for their learning and development.
